The Essential mattress by Dorel Signature Sleep is designed with all the necessary features a mattress can offer to assure that we provide you with a perfectly sound sleep, night after night, year after year. This 6 inch innerspring coil mattress contains 216 sturdy 13.5 gauge tempered steel coils, on top of which rests cushioning layers for dream-worthy comfort; two 100% polyester insulation pads, and two foam layers are found above and beneath the coils to protect them, but also to provide the necessary resilience so that you never feel the coils, even after years of use. For your convenience and even more cost savings, this mattress is shipped compressed, rolled and vacuum sealed. We care about your comfort, but we also care about the environment. We purchased this for our sleep number bed to add an extra layer of cuhioning, yes it has a smell when it comes to your house, but airing it for about 24 hours should take care of that problem. That being said it has made an incredible difference for us in the comfort level of the bed. We opted for a one step up from the bottom sleep number bed thinking that we could add a layer of memory foam for alot less than the cost of the superior sleep number and we made a good decision. We are in our 50's and have more trouble sleeping with out waking to shift position at night. The first time we slept on this, I didn't move the entire night. We have had this since this summer and it still feels like heaven when I lay down at night. I highly recommend this product and am considering ordering a second for the holidays when our children come home to make the beds in the other rooms just as comfortable.

I purchased this product after reading reviews for many mattress toppers.
It's like having a new bed. There was no smell as described by some products. I don't notice the bed being hotter as described by some products and it is extremely comfortable. I aired it for 24 hours and placed it on the bed. Glad I purchased it.

I am currently sleeping in a twin bed during my lengthy stay in Afghanistan. The mattresses out here are HORRID and I would have to wake up several times in the night to move from where a spring was poking into my back. I ordered this because I was spoiled with my pillow top mattress, and wanted something to help me sleep better.

The moment I unrolled it and laid on my bed I noticed a difference. I thought that the different sections (smaller blocks and bigger blocks on the pattern) would bother me, but I sunk right in.

For some reason, only lately (I've had it for five months) it keeps coming bunched up in the middle and where I lay my head. It gets so bad if I don't fix it when I first notice it the mattress topper will take the sheet off of my bed. I fix it almost 2-3 times a week, which can get really annoying. I have a real bad back and my wife has some back problems also. We bought this mattress about, 1 1/2 ago. Our backs feel a lot better. We love this mattress and hope it lasts forever. It's the first king bed, we have owned. I would recomend this mattress to everyone, no matter what size they buy !
We have had friends over and let them sleep in our bed, not at the same time. LOL !!!! They have said, it was the best sleep, they have had in a long time !

The background: My wife and I bought our first king size bed in April 2005. Three years later the thing was already sagging down the middle. Lived with it for a year and then finally made a warranty claim. The company stripped the bed down to the springs and rebuilt a new mattress. Lasted 8 months before terrible again.

So I read Consu. Reports and lo and behold, besides the fact that it states that mattresses are the number one inquired about review next to cars, they don't actually rate any mattresses. I guess it is b/c the companies give each store their own model so it is impossible to compare. C.R. did, however, give satisfaction survey numbers on the different manufacturers. It was amazing. All but one were 50% or lower (the question, I believe, was would you buy another mattress of this brand). Most were much lower than 50% (Serta was 35%). I mean WOW. I have waited a month to do this review to be as accurate as possible on this purchase. We researched this purchase extensively before deciding to purchase prior to the holidays. We previously had a Simmons Euro top ultra plush king that only lasted 5 years before it started to become uncomfortable and bother my back. We went to numerous stores to lay on Tempur pedic mattresses and other brands. We could not justify spending $3000 on a mattress that we might not like. It seemed like people either loved or hated these memory foam products.
We were a bit apprehensive about purchasing online but the reviews of this product were mostly positive. At a third of the price i figured we couldn't go wrong. We did look at other companies but there were some concerns about the foam being used and where the products were being made. sleep innovations website was good and revlieved any fears on the foam etc.

After I'd ordered this mattress, it hit me: I live alone, and my bedroom is up a flight of stairs. How the heck am I gonna....?

The box is heavy--over 70 pounds. But the mattress is folded in half, rolled, and compressed, so the box isn't that unmanageable to haul up. Then you pry the mattress out of the box and let it flop open and un-compress. The instructions say to leave it open for 48 hours. This seems...unrealistic to me. I did it in the morning, and let it do its thing all day and slept on it that night. I'll admit, there was a sort of chemical foam smell when you first open it, and a few hours later, but it's gone entirely by the second night.

Sleep quality is nice. Mine is quite firm and supportive. Compared to the standard mattress (which it's replacing) it's a bit taller (so if you have mobility issues, you might have to adjust getting into and out of bed).
